Flutters & Flowers
Flutters & Flowers welcomes you to ToDs very first pattern collection made from a series of hand painted artworks. The collection boasts of natures beauty, neutrality, and an absence of vice and virtue. In the natural world beauty is both kind and cruel. It is exhilarating and bold in its readiness to build and destroy. This collection looks at dichotomies in nature that we as humans spend much of our existence debating as determinants of ones character only to be reminded that the allure in nature is that it doesn't care at all.
Avad Avat
Also known as the Strawberry Finch, the AvadAvat morphs from brown to red during mating season in search of a female counterpart. A sparrow from South-East Asia, it begins a colorful transition in May starting from the beak. As it slowly turns scarlet it continues to darken in color all the way onto November turning brown again by April.
Diederik Cuckoo
A solitary bird, the Diederik Cuckoo is found in Subsaharan Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. During a courtship, male Cuckoos will sing, dance, and gift their lady love with caterpillars. Females, solitary and destructive, will neither build a nest nor raise their chicks. They are known to invade up to 50 different nests, destroy the eggs, lay their own, and fly away. Once hatched, the Diederik chick will equally prey on other eggs laid during incubation.
Splendid Fairy Wren
The Blue Wren is a passerine bird found across Australia. Like the AvadAvat, the male wren transforms color by turning bright blue and black during breeding season. Despite socially forming pairs with one partner, they are sexually promiscuous and will mate with multiple partners. During a courtship, pink and purple petals are plucked and presented as part of the courtship display.
Welcome Note
"My journey with ToD is a step into a vibrant newness, far from what is familiar into something bigger than myself expressed through color. There is nothing fast, mainstream, or culturally bound about ToD, it quietly began through an unfolding of my love for lines. From there a journey of meticulously sketched, hand-painted and digitized pieces were born with the aim to cover specs and corners of your life in aesthetic statement. Years in the making, it is now ready to take a life of its own and I'm thrilled to share it. So, thank you for being here."
